Aerodactyl by Bill Warner

I built a larger version of the Aerodactyl, designed by Bill Warner, making a version with a Wing Span of 22 inches, instead of 15 inches.  I used a 7 inch Sig propeller mounted on a nose bearing like the one supplied with the Sig Thermal Dart. An article in Model Aviation from April 2016 describes this plane, revisiting the original article by Bill Warner in Model Aviation from January 1995. The Wing mount slides on the fuselage stick, to adjust center of gravity. Covering on the bottom of the wing is polyethylene from a light produce bag. I have gotten flight duration of 20 seconds outdoors.

Flying Aces Moth from Peck Kit

The Flying Aces Moth is so-called because its plans were first published in Flying Aces Magazine over 80 years ago, and is still a popular design.  YouTube videos can be found like " Flying Aces Moth - Stronger Motor " by sandfac showing a good 1 minute flight (818 views · 4/25/2017). The Peck kit I built from is still available ( https://www.wind-it-up.com/products/flying-aces-moth ) and Kits may be had at other places. Wing Span is 24 inches.   While I started with the 8 inch plastic Propeller, that came with the kit, I eventually used an 8.5 inch diameter Balsa blank from Superior Props (Volare Products) to make the propeller from the original design as shown in the picture.  With it, I got a 1 minute + flight at the 2016 out door Champs Meet, unfortunately after official flights were over. The next year I took it to Bong recreation area and had a fly away, while I installed a dethermalizer, I hadn’t installed the fuse.

Sig Thermal Dart

My Thermal Dart was built from a kit.  It is a larger version of the Delta Dart or AMA Cub and is a very simple kit to build.  It is fairly easy to get flights of over a minute, and in that time it can go far.  The Kit is available  and cheap        (www.sigmfg.com/products/sig-thermal-dart-kit).  The Thermal Dart has a 24 inch wing span.  Mine weighed 24 grams.
